Development of High Strength and Toughness Non-Heated Al–Mg–Si Alloys for High-Pressure Die-Casting

Based on the 3 factors and levels orthogonal experiment method, compositional effects of Mg, Si, Ti addition microstructures, tensile properties, fracture behaviors high-pressure die-casting Al-xMg-ySi-zTi alloys have been investigated. The analysis variance shows that both Mg Si apparently influence properties alloys, while does not. mechanical are comprehensively influenced by amount eutectic phase (α-Al + Mg2Si), average grain size, content dissolved into α-Al matrix. optimized alloy is Al-7.49 Mg-3.08Si-0.01Ti (wt%), which exhibits yield strength 219 MPa, ultimate 401 elongation 10.5%. Furthermore, contour maps, showing relationship among compositions, microstructure characteristics, constructed, provide guidelines for developing high toughness Al–Mg–Si–Ti die-casting.
